Eleven-track metal album from Nokia combining 'Northcore' heaviness with Finnish mythology themes, folk-poetry inspiration, and atmospheric dark soundscapes.
UKKO ('sky god' in Finnish mythology) operates on massive looping rhythms, heavy percussion, and ominous atmosphere layered with melodic motifs that feel distinctly Northern. The six-piece lineup (Tuomas Kurikka, Aku Karjalainen, Leevi Luoto, Kevin Apostol, Patrik Nuorteva, Ari Pietilä) tracked the album with Buster Odeholm handling both mixing and mastering. Released on Long Branch Records in December 2021. Thematically the album circles death, healing, rebirth, and faith, with the title serving as both personal memorial and mythological reference. Track titles are predominantly Finnish-language: 'Talvi' (Winter), 'Susi' (Wolf), 'Veri' (Blood), 'Joki' (River), 'Uhri' (Sacrifice)—connecting the metalcore framework to Finnish folk imagery. The band self-describes the style as 'Northcore,' emphasizing the regional and mythological elements within modern metal structures.
